OpenAI has just announced the release of a ChatGPT app for iOS. The app is launching in the US today and will come to other markets soon. An Android app is also in the pipeline.
The ChatGPT iOS app can do everything the chatbot does on the desktop, and it also sync conversations across devices. The iOS app also leverages OpenAI’s Whisper speech recognition engine to enhance voice input on iPhones.

While the new iOS app is free to use, ChatGPT Plus subscribers can enjoy faster response times from the more advanced GPT-4 model (which is the same model used by Microsoft’s Bing chatbot). The $20/month subscription will also provide early access to upcoming ChatGPT features.
The ChatGPT app for iOS requires an iPhone 8 or newer running iOS 16.1 or newer. If you have an iPad, the app doesn’t offer a tablet-optimized layout yet. If you’re in the US, you can download the app from this link.
OpenAI really kicked off the generative AI race when it launched ChatGPT last fall, but competitors are catching up fast. Microsoft recently dropped the waitlist for its GPT-4 powered Bing chatbot, which is now integrated into Microsoft Edge and the company’s Swiftkey keyboard. Google has also launched its Bard AI in 180 countries, though the chatbot isn’t available in the EU and Canada yet.
