WhatsApp Adds Privacy Checkup and Silence Unknown Callers Features

WhatsApp Privacy Checkup Silence Unknown Callers

WhatsApp announced the launch of two new privacy features today. The first one is Silence Unknown Callers, which will automatically silence calls from unknown numbers while still making them visible in the Call list. This feature has been a popular request from WhatsApp users.

“Silence Unknown Callers is designed to give you more privacy and control of your incoming calls. It helps to automatically screen out spam, scams, and calls from unknown people for increased protection,” the company explained today.

The second new privacy feature coming to WhatsApp today is Privacy Checkup, which will help users to review their privacy settings. By selecting ‘Start checkup’ in the app’s Privacy settings, WhatsApp will let users check who can contact them and take control of their personal information.

These more granular privacy controls follow the recent rollout of the ability to edit WhatsApp messages for up to 15 minutes. If private communication remains the app’s main focus, WhatsApp recently announced the launch of a new Channels feature that will let users follow updates from organizations. WhatsApp Channels are rolling out first in Colombia and Singapore, and they will expand to other countries in the coming months.
