Microsoft announced today that it’s expanding access to its Bing chatbot to third-party browsers, including on mobile. Some Chrome and Safari users have been able to access the chatbot since July, but the software giant is now making it official.

“With so many new, useful features now a part of Bing, we’re excited to announce you can start experiencing the new AI-powered Bing in third-party browsers on web and mobile soon. This next step in the journey allows Bing to showcase the incredible value of summarized answers, image creation and more, to a broader array of people. You’ll get most of the great benefits of Bing and we’ll continue to optimize along the way to meet your needs across different browsers,” the Bing team said today.

While Microsoft will support its Bing chatbot on other web browsers, the company will continue to get Edge preferential treatment: With Edge, Bing supports longer conversations and chat history, and the chatbot is also integrated into the browser’s sidebar.

It’s now been six months since Microsoft launched its Bing chatbot, and the company has been iterating on it pretty fast. Users can now add images to a chat conversation, and there’s also a new Enterprise version of the chatbot that offers commercial data protection.

“We’re already hard at work on new experiences like Bing Chat plug-ins and refining existing experiences,” the team said today. Support for third-party plugins is something that Microsoft at its Build developer conference in May, and plugin support is also coming to the Microsoft 365 Copilot and the Windows Copilot.
