Threads Starts Rolling Out New Chronological Feed

Meta Threads

Threads, the Twitter clone created by Meta’s Instagram team is getting a new chronological feed and other new features today. Head of Instagram Mosseri announced the update on Threads today and said that “this is just the beginning.”

Adding a chronological feed has been a popular request from users. It’s also something Threads really needs if it wants to deliver the same real-time news experience as Twitter/X, an app that now seems to be ready to move away from its microblogging roots.

Just like Twitter, the Home tabs on Threads will offer two feed choices at the top, an algorithmic “For You” feed and a new chronological “Following” feed. This was probably the best thing to do to make disenchanted Twitter/X users feel right at home on Threads.

In addition to this new Following chronological feed, Threads is also getting post translations, another feature that Twitter already offered. Other new Threads features include improvements to notifications filtering in the Activity tab, as well as an easy way to follow your followers back and to approve new followers if your account is private.

With the future of Twitter looking increasingly uncertain under Elon Musk’s leadership, Meta now has a really good shot at creating a no-nonsense Twitter alternative. Because as Musk reiterated today, Twitter/X is about to become an “everything” app.

“In the months to come, we will add comprehensive communications and the ability to conduct your entire financial world. The Twitter name does not make sense in that context, so we must bid adieu to the bird,” Musk tweeted.
