Samsung has quietly released a Windows version of its Samsung Internet web browser on the Microsoft Store (via 9to5Google). The Chromium-based web browser comes pre-loaded on all of Samsung’s Galaxy Android phones, but the Windows version still looks a bit rough around the edges.
First, you’ll notice that the Microsoft Store listing for the app only includes a single sentence in the description, and it has a screenshot of Google Chrome instead of the Samsung Internet browser. While the UI of the browser looks very similar to Google Chrome, some elements haven’t been translated into English yet.
To log in to Samsung Internet with your Samsung account, you’ll need to download the Samsung Account app from the Microsoft Store, which isn’t really seamless. However, as a Chromium-based browser, Samsung Internet should provide a familiar experience.
Samsung Internet offers also a built-in ad blocker with “Basic” and “Aggressive” settings, though the feature is turned off by default. Another interesting feature available from the Options menu lets users turn on Dark Mode on websites that don’t offer that option.
Samsung may be one of the largest smartphone manufacturers on the market, but it’s a relatively minor player in the PC market. Still, Samsung ported several of its mobile apps on Windows, and you can find them alongside Samsung Internet on the Microsoft Store. However, a couple of them such as Samsung Notes are only available on the company’s Galaxy Book PCs.
