Google One Surpasses 100 Million Subscribers

Well, it’s official: Google One now has over 100 million paying subscribers, a milestone that the firm previewed during its latest quarterly results.

“We just crossed 100 million Google One subscribers,” Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai tweeted today. “Looking forward to building on that momentum with our new AI Premium Plan (launched yesterday) offering AI features like Gemini Advanced, plus Gemini in Gmail, Docs, and more coming soon.”

Google announced Google One as an evolution of its Google Drive cloud storage service in May 2018 and then released the service that August in the U.S. Since then, it’s expanded dramatically and has become a more full-featured set of services that includes device backups, a VPN, Google Store rewards, premium features for Google Photos, Meet, and Calendar, and more.

And as Mr. Pichai mentions in his tweet, Google is bringing additional AI features to Google One courtesy of its Gemini AI models. Customers can upgrade to a new AI Premium Plan that offers all the features of its Premium tier—which includes 2 TB of shareable online storage—but adds Gemini Advanced access and will soon provide Gemini (formerly Duet) tools in Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets and more for an additional $19.99 per month, similar to Microsoft’s Copilot Pro.
