LinkedIn is Testing Short-Form Video Feed

Linkedin mobile app

LinkedIn appears to be testing a new short-form video feed that emulates what TikTok and many other apps have popularized in recent years. This new video feed was first spotted by Austin Null, a social media and influencer marketing professional on the LinkedIn mobile app, where it has its dedicated button in the bottom navigation bar (via TechCrunch).

The new video feed displays auto-playing vertical video with a “beta” tag at the top left corner. Users can swipe to the next video, leave a like or comment, or share them using the different buttons at the bottom right corner of the app. Again, this looks a lot like TikTok or the feeds for Shorts and Reels videos in the YouTube and Instagram apps, respectively.

LinkedIn already allows users to post videos on the professional social network, but TikTok and other platforms have proved that with the right algorithm, consuming short vertical videos can become very addictive. You may remember that LinkedIn tried to copy Snapchat’s ephemeral Stories format before, but the company discontinued the experiment a year later after realizing that its users didn’t like seeing their videos disappear.

LinkedIn’s new short-form video feed appears to be only available for a limited number of users at the moment. It’s possible that a good chunk of the user base may not like the TikTok-like experience, but LinkedIn has other ideas to increase user engagement. Earlier this month, the company confirmed that it was working on a small selection of puzzle-based games to “unlock a bit of fun” and “deepen relationships.”
