Microsoft announced at its Build conference this morning that its Edge browser is getting real-time video translation and more security features for business users. Microsoft Edge will use new generative AI technology to translate web videos into different languages.
Yesterday, Microsoft revealed that the upcoming Copilot+ PCs powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series chips will be able to translate any live or pre-recorded audio in any app or video platform from over 40 languages into English subtitles. This will be done via the system-level Live Captions feature, but real-time video translation in Microsoft Edge will work differently. And they will also work on platforms other than Windows.
At launch, real-time video translation in Microsoft Edge will be available across YouTube and other websites including LinkedIn, Reuters, CNBC News, Bloomberg, and Coursera. The feature will support translating audio from Spanish to English and from English to German, Hindi, Italian, Russian, and Spanish, with support for more languages coming later.
Microsoft Edge for Business, the new enterprise browsing experience for users logged in with a Microsoft Entra ID account is also getting new security features. Screenshot prevention policies will allow IT admins to block users’ ability to take screenshots on pages labeled as sensitive or protected. Additionally, the Edge management service will allow IT admins to see which devices have Edge instances that are out of date and at risk.
