Outlook for iOS and Android Will Soon Be Able to Recall Emails

Microsoft is bringing the ability to recall emails to its Outlook app for iOS and Android. The feature has been available for a while on Outlook for Windows and the Outlook web app, and it also came to the Mac version of the email client earlier this month.

“Recall in Outlook allows you to retract an email from all recipient’s inboxes after you’ve hit send,” explained Beth Jester, a Product Manager on the Outlook team. “This feature can be particularly helpful in professional settings, where sending an incorrect message might be confusing or erode confidence.”

This new Recall emails feature in the Outlook mobile apps will only be available for emails sent between Microsoft 365 email accounts within the same organization. Jester also noted that Recall “may fail on emails that are very old.”

On mobile, the option to recall emails will appear from the menu that shows up when tapping the … button in the top-right corner of an email. After recalling a message, Outlook users will be notified by email about whether the recall was successful or not.

Microsoft plans to gradually roll out this Recall emails feature to Android beta testers and iOS TestFlight users later this month. The mobile email client will also soon let users minimize email drafts so they can switch between tasks more easily.
