Bluesky Now Supports Group Chats With Up to 50 People

Bluesky group chats

Bluesky, one of the main alternatives to Twitter/X, is rolling out support for group chats today. Each group chat can welcome up to 50 users, but the team is considering raising that number in the future.

You’ll need to download the just-released version 1.124 of Bluesky to get started with group chats. The group conversations can be created by sending an invite link to other users, and these links will also show up as an embedded card on Bluesky. Group chat creators can control privacy options and manage members at any time.

What’s up, chat!

Group chats are rolling out today in the new v1.124 update.

This is our first feature built for communities, and there’s more to come.

“We know many of you want to send media in DMs and group chats. We couldn’t include that in today’s release, but we think it’s a super valuable feature. We’ll need to build new safety and moderation systems before we can add it,” the Bluesky team said today.

In addition to group chats, Bluesky is also working on a new Communities feature that will be quite similar to the Communities on X that were recently discontinued. These communities will offer different privacy levels, and they will also integrate with other apps and tools developed with the decentralized AT protocol that powers Bluesky. Communities are set to launch on Bluesky later this year.
