Facebook Messenger Borrows Some of Instagram’s Camera Features

Facebook Messenger is getting some big camera-related features as part of the latest update on mobile devices. Facebook recently introduced a major update to Messenger in an effort to reduce some of the clutter that’s gotten into the app over the years.

The new update brings a revamped camera on Facebook Messenger, inspired by Facebook’s own Instagram app. The update introduces Instagram’s Boomerang looping videos, as well as a new Selfie mode which blurs out the background much like Portrait Mode. The new modes also come with a redesigned camera UI inspired by Instagram — now allowing users to easily switch between the different video modes: normal, video, text, boomerang, and selfie.

Facebook is also introducing another new feature for the Messenger camera: support for AR stickers. These AR stickers were already available within chat, but you can now have them lying around in your Messenger videos or pictures. They work much like Snapchat’s Bitmoji stickers, though those aren’t available all the time like AR stickers on Messenger.

Messenger’s new update is rolling out to all users today, and it’s available to those who are on the old, cluttered version of the app as well.
