WhatsApp Gets a Dark Mode on iOS and Android

WhatsApp is finally getting a native dark mode. The company started testing the new dark mode on Android earlier this year, and it was later tested with iOS users. And now, it’s officially coming to everyone.

The new dark mode will be enabled by default depending on your system settings on Android 10 and iOS 13. Ifyou are on older versions of Android, you will be able to enable it from within WhatsApp settings.

Dark mode for WhatsApp has been a long-time coming, but what may surprise you is that the dark mode design actually varies between iOS and Android. And that’s because WhatsApp wanted the dark mode to adapt well based on the operating system. “When choosing colors, we wanted to minimize eye fatigue and use colors that are closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android respectively,” the company explained in a blog post.

The new dark mode is apparently the most requested feature from users of the app.

WhatsApp has also released a video promotion for the new dark mode on the app, which is pretty amusing. Either way, you will be able to get the new dark mode on WhatsApp by grabbing the latest update for the app from the App Store or Google Play Store right away.

I hate it whenm apps don't give you a choice. I find the dark mode to black, and I would have proffered the light version better.

PS: Developers and Microsft, grey is your friend! Don't make bloody everything black and call it a dark made.
