Twitter starts testing Playback Speed Controls for Videos

Twitter has started rolling out new Playback Speed controls for videos and voice tweets uploaded on the platform. The new controls are being tested first on the web and the Twitter Android app, and they will let users slow down or speed up videos on the fly.

The different PlayPack Speed options for Twitter videos should go from 0.25x to 2.0x, though the Twitter Support team said that users may currently see different Playback Speed options on Android and the web. On the Android app, Playback Speed controls will be accessible by tapping the cog button in the top right corner of the video player.

In 2x, 1x, 0.5x…now testing more options in playback speed for videos.

Playback Speed controls have been available for a while on YouTube, and it’s a good thing that Twitter is finally catching up. Even though TikTok is probably the main source of viral videos on the Internet these days, a lot of media companies and influencers still use Twitter to share short videos.

Twitter is currently testing Playback Speed Controls with a limited number of users, and there’s no word yet about when the feature will make its way to the iOS app. Anyway, this is definitely a welcome accessibility feature that other platforms in the social media space may want to imitate.
