Microsoft Edge 99 Lands in the Stable Channel

Microsoft Edge 99 has started rolling out in the Stable Channel on Windows, macOS, and Linux. This is the latest major update before Edge and other Chromium-based browsers reach version 100, and there are growing concerns about compatibility problems that could be caused by the shift to a three-digit version number in the user agent string

To make sure that their websites will continue to work With Microsoft Edge 100, the Edge team is recommending web developers to test their website with a three-digit agent string. “Site owners can test this upcoming agent string by enabling the #force-major-version-to-100 experiment flag in edge://flags to ensure their User-Agent parsing logic is robust and works as expected,” the Edge team explained.

If the rollout of Microsoft Edge 100 may cause some issues next month, the freshly-released Edge 99 is quite a minor update. The main new feature in this release is the ability for users to set a custom primary password to access their saved passwords and have them auto-filled on the web. When configured, the custom primary password will replace the device password or other authentication methods.

Microsoft Edge 99 also brings improvements to PDF navigation, with the left pane of the PDR reader getting new thumbnails that represents the pages of a document. Moreover, this Edge update improves the multi-profile experience by allowing users to create a customized list of sites to open in a specific Edge profile.

This latest Edge update also introduces new policies, with IT admins now being able to configure the list of domains where the web browser should disable the password manager. Microsoft Edge 99 should install itself automatically, but you can force the update by visiting the browser’s About page.
