Opera is Offering the Coolest Job in the World, Literally

Opera Tabfulness Guru

Web browser maker Opera today announced a promotion in which it will pay someone $10,000 to become their Tabfulness Guru. There’s just one catch: You need to spend one week on an abandoned volcanic island off the coast of Iceland.

“We’ve got what just might be the coolest job in the world on offer: Browse the web from a remote island off the coast of Iceland, reach a state of ‘Tabfulness’, and get paid $10,000 as our new Tabfulness Guru,” Opera’s Patrick Curtin writes. “Do you have what it takes to be our next Guru? If surviving on Knäckebröd and fish oil with the wind on your face and the odd sheep for company – all while browsing the web and reaching a state of higher consciousness – sounds like a dream to you, you should apply!”

According to Curtin—and, to be fair, this part sounds fanciful to me, Opera has had a Tabfulness Guru named Valgardur Hlöðversson living on the island of Bjarnarey off Iceland for seven years specifically to how to bring the Scandinavian sense of coziness into browsing. Opera’s Tab Islands feature, this browser’s unique take on tab groups, was the result.

But Hlöðversson needs a vacation and so Opera is looking for a temporary replacement. You can apply for the position on the Opera website through February 25.

And if you’re already an Opera user, you can check out the new Tabfulness Guru and Tabfulness Island wallpapers, available now under “Get more wallpapers” in Opera settings.
