Brave Brings Leo AI to iPhone and iPad

Brave Leo for iOS

With the release of Leo in its web browser for iOS, Brave has completed the rollout of its privacy-focused AI.

“iPhone and iPad users who update to version 1.63 can ask Leo questions, summarize pages and PDFs, translate pages, create content, and more from the browser address bar,” the announcement post notes. “Leo enables natural conversations on a wide range of topics. With AI built right in the browser and several large language models (LLMs) to choose from, Leo makes it easy to interact with AI in a seamless, familiar way.”

Brave makes the most secure and private web browser available today, so its move into privacy-focused AI is of particular interest. The initial release landed in the desktop versions of Brave in November 2023. And then Brave shipped Leo for Android in late February. And now Brave for iPhone and iPad is available, and it arrives with a unique new feature.

“With voice-to-text capability, iOS users can speak their input and have it converted to text without needing to type,” the announcement explains. “This streamlines the interaction and makes conveying information to the AI assistant even easier. Couple this with document integrations and new models like Mixtral, and Leo for iOS becomes a powerful, mobile AI assistant you can take with you wherever you go.”

Across all platforms, Leo allows Brave users to generate webpage and PDF summaries in real-time, answer questions, get instant answers to queries, generate reports, articles, social media posts, and other long-form content, translate, analyze, or rewrite webpages, and write and suggest software code in multiple programming languages. And on mobile, Leo adds Google Docs integration so you can get assistance and create summaries in Google Docs and Sheets.

To get Leo on your iPhone or iPad, you just need to upgrade to the latest version of the app, Brave 1.63 (or higher). Leo is free, but Brave also offers a Leo Premium subscription for $14.99 per month that removes or extends the rate limits on its various LLMs, and offers very high quality conversations across all supported LLMs.

But the big selling point here, free or paid, is privacy.

“As with all of Brave’s other features, privacy remains paramount for Brave Leo,” the company notes. “Chats with Leo are private and secure. Leo doesn’t record chats, or use them for model training, and no account or login is required to use Leo.”
