Vivaldi 6.7 Adds Memory Saver, Auto Feed Detection Improvements

Vivaldi memory saver

Vivaldi today released the latest version of its flagship desktop web browser for Windows, Mac, and Linux, adding Memory Save, improved RSS feed detection capabilities, and other new features.

“Today, Vivaldi gets even better and improves your computer’s memory usage with Memory Saver,” Team Vivaldi writes in the announcement post. “The browser allows you to discover and curate news and updates from your favorite websites with Vivaldi Feed Reader.”

Here’s what’s new in Vivaldi 6.7.

Memory Saver. Like Sleeping tabs in other web browsers, Memory Saver automatically hibernates inactive tabs to free up RAM. Inactive tabs reload when selected, of course, and the feature is smart enough to not hibernate certain tabs, like those playing media.

RSS feed auto-detection improvements. In addition to its bundled Mail and Calendar clients, Vivaldi also includes an integrated RSS reader called Feed Reader that also pulls in YouTube subscriptions and podcasts. Feed Reader already auto-detects RSS feeds, but because some feeds are hard to find, it’s not always clear when some websites even offer this feature. So Vivaldi improved Feed Reader to detect feeds from Reddit, GitHub, YouTube, and other sites that do that.

Workspaces improvements. Vivaldi offers a Workspaces feature that lets you organize tabs and tab stacks into project- or category-based views separate from the main browser window. In Vivaldi 6.7, this feature is easier to use by making it quicker to create new workspaces and switch between them.

Password exporting. In keeping with its anti-lock-in and data portability promises, Vivaldi has offered the ability to export Feeds, Bookmarks, Speed Dials, Reading List, Notes, logins, and other data. And now it expands on that by supporting password exporting as well.

Tile window support on Mac. macOS offers a limited Snap-like feature called Move Window that lets you divide the screen into two different apps or two different views of the same app. Vivaldi now supports this feature, so you’ll see Tile Window options when you mouse over the app’s Full Screen (green) window button.
