Vivaldi issued major updates to its mobile web browser on Android, iPhone, and iPad, bringing the version number to 6.8 and adding several new features on each platform.
“The latest update to Vivaldi brings new ways for you to personalize the browser, with a customizable button in the address bar and easier Start Page customization,” Vivaldi founder and CEO Â Jon von Tetzchner writes in the announcement post for the Android version. (The iPhone/iPad announcement highlights the same improvements.) “We have also made several improvements to our Ad Blocker and enabled Bookmark nickname matching.”

Here’s what’s new in Vivaldi mobile:
Start page customization improvements. It’s now easier to customize your Vivaldi mobile Start page: You can toggle Speed Dials, customize the size of Speed Dials, select a background image, and toggle the Start page Customize button via a pop-up panel.
Customizable button in the address bar. Where previous versions of Vivaldi mobile provided a Tracker & Ad Blocker button in the address bar, version 6.8 replaces that with a customizable button that you can configure to launch a specific bookmark or a specific browser action like New tab, Share, Voice Search, or Translate.
Search bookmarks by nickname. Vivaldi mobile lets you give each bookmark you have a unique nickname, and now you can search bookmarks more quickly those nicknames.
Tracker & Ad Blocker improvements. The Vivaldi mobile tracker and ad blocker has received a major update, with internal changes that make it more effective.
Tab Switcher improvements. On iPhone and iPad, Vivaldi mobile 6.8 offers an improved Tab Switcher with a new user interface for managing and organizing inactive tabs. “By default, a tab will be set to inactive if you haven’t used it in the last 21 days, but you can select the interval for when a tab should be moved to Inactive from settings,” von Tetzchner explains. “All inactive tabs will be found in a folder above your open tabs when opening the Tab Switcher. Inactive tabs are hibernated and will not consume any resources from your device. It’s up to you whether you want to close your inactive tabs.”
Open bookmarks, reading list, and history in the background. On iPhone and iPad, you can now choose to open bookmarks, reading list, and history in a new background tab via a long press context menu.
