Mozilla Releases Firefox 124 with Windows Jump List Improvements

Firefox 124

Mozilla issued Firefox version 124 across Windows, Mac, Linux, adding several new features and improvements, one of which is specific to Windows. Separately, Mozilla is touting some impressive performance improvements it’s made over the past year as part of its collaboration with Apple, Google, Microsoft, and others on the Speedometer 3 browser benchmark.

“Firefox is powered by the world-class Gecko engine, with shockingly fast styling and page layout, modern JavaScript features and a never-ending drumbeat of new performance improvements to keep our users happy and push the web platform forward,” the firm notes. “All browsers had to make improvements in order to perform well on the new Speedometer 3 tests. Firefox in particular made huge strides, getting noticeably faster for our users as a direct result of this work. Firefox is faster than ever before, with speed you can really feel, including faster page loads and smoother interactions.”

Anyway, here’s what’s new in Firefox 124:

Jump list improvements on Windows. Mozilla notes that “Firefox now populates the Windows taskbar jump list more efficiently, which should allow for a smoother overall browsing experience.”

Tab sorting in Firefox View. You can now sort the tabs in Firefox View by recent activity (the default) or tab order.

Improved full-screen on macOS. Firefox now uses the macOS full-screen API for all windows, and it should now better match the expected experience for spaces, the macOS, menu, and the Dock.

Caret browsing in PDF files. Firefox’s caret browsing feature now works with PDF files too. You can learn more here.

Search engine improvements. Users of the Qwant search engine can now use any supported language in Belgium, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, and Switzerland.

You can download Firefox 124 from the Mozilla website.
