Has it already been a month? Mozilla today issued Firefox 125, the latest version of its flagship web browser, with AV1 codec, PDF, and other improvements.

“Firefox is a browser backed by a non-profit whose sole mission is to ensure that the Internet is a global public resource, open and accessible to all,” Mozilla wrote earlier this year of its web browser. “It’s a fast browser that puts reliability and security/privacy ahead of profits, with a focus on the needs of people, not shareholders. Firefox also has a wide range of extensions, too, that take your browsing experience to the next level — it’s one of the few browsers that supports extensions on Android devices, by the way. It can also sync all of your devices to take your favorite bookmarks, saved logins, passwords and browsing history wherever you go. Plus, send open tabs between your phone and laptop or computer to pick up where you left off.”

And with Firefox 125—technically 125.0.1—this browser has gotten even better. Key updates and changes include:

Improved codec support. Firefox now supports the AV1 codec for Encrypted Media Extensions (EME), which it says enables higher-quality playback from video streaming providers.

PDF improvements. Like other web browsers, Firefox is a perfectly capable PDF viewer. And it now supports text highlighting in PDFs, with multiple colors and a range of thickness choices.

Firefox view improvements. Firefox view—the odd button in the upper left of the app window—now displays pinned tabs and tab indicators in the Open tabs section. Tab indicators “see which tabs are playing media and quickly mute or unmute across windows.” There are also indicators for bookmarks, tabs with notifications, and more.

Address autofill improvements. In the US and Canada, Firefox will now prompt you to save your address when you submit it in a form.

Security improvements. There are no details on this one, but Firefox now “more proactively blocks downloads from URLs that are considered to be potentially untrustworthy.”

You can learn about the other changes in the Firefox 125.0.1 release notes.
