Happy Birthday Windows Vista

15 years ago today, Windows Vista was released!

January 30th, 2007

A major Windows release that got dragged down by it’s system requirements, driver compatibility, and leaner faster Windows XP counterpart.

It really doesn’t seem that long ago!

I put Vista Ultimate on the first PC I ever built myself, a Core 2 Duo system with 2 GB of RAM and an 8600 GTS graphics card.

I honestly remember it running pretty well, but of course, with specs like that at the time, it should.

Right now I have it installed on an old OptiPlex 360 that I got for free from a coworker.

Let’s be clear that Vista’s UAC was the fruit of a poisoned collection of minds.

However, it established MSFT Windows tradition. Windows 7 was Windows Vista after MSFT listened to users. Windows 10 was Windows 8.x after MSFT listened to users. There’s hope for those planning on skipping Windows 11.

Gotta wonder what MSFT’s procedures are for picking people for focus groups. Or does that seem way too credulous that MSFT listens to focus groups?
