So Much for the Microsoft Band Rebate

Some of us are still been using the Microsot Band 2. When Microsoft announced that they were disscontiniuing the Microsoft Band Services, they suggested that they were offering a rebate to current users.

Microsoft Pulls the Plug on Microsoft Band Apps

So far nothing, not a peep from Microsoft.

Anyone heard anything about this mythical Microaoft Helth servcie rebate ? or do we suppose that Microsoft were acting in bad faith to suggest a rebate to its Band users.

Microsoft says it will email users. I didn't expect this to be immediate per se, but if you look at its <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4467073/end-of-support-for-the-microsoft-health-dashboard-applications" target="_blank">support page it's reasonable to expect this anytime by the end of August.

I got a refund from MS last night without ever getting an email…so to speak…..

I want to preface this by stating I have been a dedicated Windows Weekly listener for a LONG time….and a paid member of Thurrott.com as well….and never have I felt the need to comment on much of anything until now.

I was just checking the site to verify what happened to me was seen by anyone else, and so far, nothing….

Some back story…..

I got the Band 2 almost immediately after its release direct from MS. It was replaced under warranty when the strap suffered from the 'disintegration' issue with 24/7 use. After that, I stopped using it day to day so as to preserve it for prosperity and the occasional hike or walk, knowing the platform was unofficially dead.

Eventually and parallel to all this, I abandoned Windows Phone and went to Android. I activated the Health/Band service on my Android Phone with the app and the (2nd) Band was pretty much always connected to my phone when at home as well as using it as a dynamic unlock device for the phone.

I am pretty sure it was used or synced during that December to March time period in which it needed to be 'active' for the refund/rebate and only because my wife and I decided to go for a nice walk and I wanted to trace our route. Ha!

in March, I got an initial email from MS about the Band going away and another about the Health Vault going away. These are the emails that most all of us got as registered users. I was desperately waiting for word on the potential rebate, even though not ACTIVE per se, I very much was entitled to a refund, IMHO.

Fast forward to this past Monday where I received a strange message from MS to set myself up with "Microsoft Payment Central". Nothing in the email said ANYTHING about the band, but I had a hunch…and after making sure the email was not a fake, I got my checking account setup with them.

Early in the morning, my bank notified me of a direct depost in the amount of $175 from MS!

Still…NOTING official in any way, shape, or form from MS regarding the Band, but suffice it to say….I have no reason whatsoever to be getting any money from MS for ANYTHING…other than the Band. And still it sits about 3 feet away from me on my nightstand.

Feel free to reach out with any questions guys!

MS was actually giving out Band 2 refunds over a year ago. I traded in my large MS Band 2 for a rebate after they fixed the band twice (replaced the band entirely) and it broke a third time. So this is not anything new, folks.

Well of course they remove the software.

I mean… why would they expect you want to use the thing? Some beancounter decided that they need to not just let people use it.

Beancounters are always right. Right?
