Surface Revenue

I have just a question while Microsoft and Apple both sell premium computers Microsoft reported

Surface had a solid quarter as well, delivering almost $2 billion in revenues, a gain of 6 percent YOY

Then Apple reported

Mac saw a 13 percent decline to $7.2 billion, while iPad revenues fell 12.6 percent to $5.9 billion

So my questions are simply this. From they way it reads

Apple sells more Macs then iPads in post pc era?

Apples Mac business is 2 1/2 times bigger then Microsoft surface business?

My last question is does Apple ever report on the Beats business we hear all the time about AirPods but what about Beats brand?

Just asking to make sure I am reading this right.

Apple sells more Macs then iPads in post pc era?

Probably not. Look at the average selling price for both lines. The iPad is under $1,000, the Macs are mostly well over the $1,000 mark, the MacBook Pros well over $2k on average, heck the Mac Pro starts at, what? North of 6K? So you need to sell a lot fewer of them than you do iPads to generate more revenue.

Apples Mac business is 2 1/2 times bigger then Microsoft surface business?

Again, the average selling price of Macs is higher than Surface, although probably a lot closer. But probably about 1.5-2x would probably be about right.

In reply to helix2301:

Based on the fact that the new Mac Pro has only been out for a few weeks I doubt they sold many fully loaded Mac Pros in this quarter, in fact I doubt they will ever sell that many of them fully loaded.

This is focused solely on the amount of money made from those product lines, not the quantity of products sold. While iPads (and maybe Surface) very likely sell in higher quantities, the average cost is lower. That makes them appear as a "smaller" portion of the business, when they're actually the much more successful product.

In reply to helix2301:

Had more revenue? Yes. Made more money… impossible to say. Sold more Macs than iPads. No.
