What makes no sense at all is that it seems the older W10 machines are more prepared for the update than the newer W10 machines.

Apparently SP7, SPX and SB3 aren't able to handle it.

Work that out. Does anyone have a theory on that?

In reply to miamimauler:

My guess is the newer ones have a driver blockage. They are probably waiting on a revised driver for those devices to work correctly.

In reply to miamimauler:

The issues must not be too bad. I did the upgrade on my Surface Book 3 and Studio 2 and don't seem to have any issues. I ran the update from the USB stick I made.

In reply to miamimauler:

Yet another reason NOT to buy Surface devices. If they cannot support them, sod them. BTW there has been no mention of this problem in the 17 month of builds for 20H1. Time to put Linux on the old SB3 – runs just fine.

In reply to navarac:

Seems odd to purchase an SB3 and within a couple of weeks put Linux on it just because you didnt get an update on the day of release

In reply to navarac:

You don't know what you're talking about. Microsoft supports them just fine. In fact a couple weeks ago before the Surface Book 3 came out they pushed a firmware update to the original Surface Book which is what 4.5 years old.

In reply to miamimauler:

AMD Ryzen 1700 home-build, Spectre x360 2016 and a ThinkPad T480 (but that was pushed out, because I am in the "experimental" WSUS group at work).

In reply to wright_is:

…and I won a bet with myself that that would be the first comment. :)

In reply to dave.erwin:

Yep, 100%. Most will stay well clear for a few weeks (if not months) and wait for the 3rd or 4th re-issue of the update. I never understand 1st day installers…

Still, if you're lucky enough to own a Surface you won't be getting it quite yet due to compatibility issues! /s

In reply to ghostrider:

Everyone's situation is different. I support 30 or so users. The earlier I can deal with it myself the more I know about possible issues and changes that I need to communicate to them when they are upgraded. So, reasons…

In reply to ghostrider:

I got it on my SP4 as part of the insider release preview ring. I'm not aware of any surface specific issues and haven't noticed any, either.

In reply to earlster:

It's on most of the tech sites that many SB3, SPX and SP7 users are blocked from updating which is simply unacceptable.

Don't fall in to the habit of assuming that just because you haven't had issues it must mean no one is having issues.

Haven't gotten it yet.

If I don't get me some 20H1 I'm not going to be very pleasant to be around.

Well, not really. I'm having too much fun with my new Core i7 RTX 2060 Super gaming rig to be too concerned!

If a tree falls in the woods, and no humans are around to hear it, yes of COURSE it still makes sound.

Physical reality exists regardless of humans perceiving it. We have not physically perceived any civilizations on other planets. Does this mean they don't exist?

Of course not.

To think that human perception is a requirement for physical reality to exist is the height of narcissism.
