Rest in Peace Windows Phone!

Many years ago, Windows Phone came out, to offer users a choice. It tried to be different, with colorful live tiles, apps, and much much more. There was excellent hardware like Nokia Lumias, that had some of the best camera on the market.

Windows Phone tried, and tried to stay up. but ultimately, could not compete with the two giants.

Rest in Peace Windows Phone

I figure that if MSFT had given PC users a choice of launchers in Windows 8, exactly like it had done in Windows 95 and NT4 providing Program Manager as a throw-back alternative to the new taskbar and Start button/menu, Windows Phone would have done better by not annoying as many Windows PC users.

In reply to jimchamplin:

MS made some terrible design choices with Win8, but under the hood it was very robust. Slap on a third party start menu (Start8 is excellent, if not free), and you've got a very stable OS that doesn't have any of the issues Win10 does. If I'm eventually forced off Win7, maybe Win8 will do me for a year or two until I can dump Windows completely.

In reply to ghostrider:

I agree that Windows 8.1.1 with Classic Shell and configured to show the Start screen/App view as seldom as possible as well as ALL hot corners disabled is better than Windows 7 except if one wants to replace Explorer as the desktop shell. That's no longer a real possibility, though I accept that no more than 0.5% of Windows PC users ever went down that path.

Meanwhile I am still using the Lumia 650, because Windows Mobile 10 is still the Best User Interface (In My opinion), much better than the dated icon centric iOS or Android.(In My opinion)

I have a new Nokia Android for testing, but its horrible UI, even with an Arrow Launcher.

So Whatever……. swings your boat.

In reply to JimP:

I used my last flip phone for 6 years before the screen died and I had to replace it. Are you prepared to do the same? And if you do, do you have a stock of replacement 950 XLs?
