Baldur’s Gate III shows how the Xbox Series S may have been a mistake

So Baldur’s Gate III comes out over the course of the next month on PC and PS5. Hits today on PC, September 6 on PS5.

The Xbox version is TBD because the Series S is not powerful enough to run the game as developed, and Microsoft requires games to run at parity between the Series S and Series X. The developer can’t launch the game on Xbox until they figure out how/if they can make the game work on both consoles.

There have been rumblings for a long time that the Series S cut down hardware was hamstringing developers and was going to be a problem for this generation, and it looks like this might be the first high profile example of it being a real problem.

Microsoft may have had a good idea with the cheaper console, but if we start to see this be a problem more often, it could be a real bad thing.
