Key takeway: Microsoft's app store shows the same trends as all mobile app stores, but at a much smaller scale. Which they never provide numbers for.

I have an editorial coming about why this platform has failed. And why other platform makers are copying the Microsoft model regardless.

In reply to paul-thurrott:

I think it's important to keep in mind there is an endless need from employees and management to justify their existence and those 'ideas' of creating something someone else has is an easy way to spend some time. Also never looking at competition lessons learned, is a career saving move. Then they can learn the same thing and have pulled in another eight months of salary. One study cited over LinkedIn conversations said a recent report claimed the average employee length of time at Microsoft, Google and Apple for employees under 30 is like 1.8 years. (Not sure how management can teach groups so they can learn from the past and make smarter decisions in project management if employees are always looking at other options outside of their group?)
