Flight Simulator Update Brings Enhanced Visuals for the UK and Ireland

Microsoft has released World Update 3 for Flight Simulator, bringing enhanced visuals scenery, airports, and activities to the UK and Ireland. For free.

“World Update 3: United Kingdom & Ireland features high-resolution 3D photogrammetry for the renowned cities of Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, London and Oxford, five new meticulously hand-crafted airports (Barra, Liverpool, Land’s End, Manchester-Barton and Out Skerries), visual and logistical improvements to 85 more area airports, and improved digital elevation information across the U.K,” Microsoft’s Jorg Neumann announced today. “In addition, we’ve added compelling architectural elements throughout the region, ranging from British manors and Victorian homes to countryside stone structures, castles and churches – and even some drive-thru restaurants.”

The update also includes over 70 new custom landmarks and points of interest and three new activities: An Iconic Flight in the Northern Isles and two diverse Landing Challenges, one over the Shetland archipelago and the other over Southeast England.

World Update 3: United Kingdom & Ireland is available for free starting today for all Microsoft Flight Simulator users. It joins the two previous world updates, for Japan and the United States, respectively, and Microsoft plans to continue releasing “meaningful” Flight Sim updates each month going forward.

Barra should be interesting, it is one of two official airports world-wide that have a beach runway, available only at low tide. I've never flown in to Barra (sailed out there on a yacht), but it is interesting to see plans taking off and landing on the beach.

This stunning game keeps getting better and better and at no extra cost! The flight school / training was awesome and I want to do more virtual flying when I have time.

I have yet to try this in VR and I have a Valve Index kit. Flight Sim in VR will hopefully be this weekend.

In reply to orbsitron:

it depends from the point of view. This update improved again the visuals but completely broke the flight model… don't know what to say about it..
