Microsoft May Add Option to Disable Quick Resume on Xbox Consoles

Microsoft will look into adding an option to disable Quick Resume for games on Xbox Series X|S consoles (via VGC). Quick Resume is a handy feature that puts recent Xbox games in a saved state, letting gamers pick up where they left off in seconds, but it’s not always reliable.

Quick Resume is available across most Xbox games, though online games often won’t resume properly. In most cases, players will just be kicked back to the game’s main menu, which can be a confusing and frustrating experience.

“I still don’t understand how it’s not a feature you can disable, it’s amazing for a lot of games but when it tries to quick resume an online only game it absolutely breaks it and you have to manually quit. If only an option to disable it for such games existed,” an Xbox gamer complained on Twitter yesterday.

The tweet caught the attention of Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, who said that was good feedback. “Good feature ask, makes sense. We will put it on the list of things to look at,” the Xbox exec replied.

Quick Resume is a really cool feature other gaming platforms don’t have, and it will keep working even if you keep your Xbox console unplugged for days. However, you really need to be aware that the feature can be inconsistent depending on the type of games you play.

If you’re playing the same Xbox game on multiple consoles, you should also be aware that only one Quick Resume save is available per game and console. In that case, you should either fully quit your game so it won’t stay in Quick Resume, or make sure to save your progress before leaving it in a Quick Resume state.
