As I’m sure you know, Microsoft announced its intent to purchase Activision Blizzard for $67.8 billion in January. Since then, the deal has come under the expected regulatory scrutiny both here and abroad, with Sony—Microsoft’s main competitor in the videogame market—doing everything it can to scuttle the deal or, at the very least, ensure the best possible terms.
“The European Commission’s review of the deal is progressing in line with the expected regulatory schedule and process, and we remain confident that the acquisition will close in fiscal year 2023,” a Microsoft statement notes. Microsoft’s fiscal year 2023 concludes June 30, 2023.
