The cult-classic game Goldeneye 007 game will be released on Xbox consoles, Xbox Game Pass, and Nintendo Switch on January 27. The game was originally released on the Nintendo 64 back in 1997, and it’s often recognized as one of the best console shooters of all time.
The Xbox version of Goldeneye 007 will feature the same single-player campaign based on the James Bond movie and the split-screen multiplayer mode that supports up to 4 players. “It also offers a few key additions for a modern audience, including alternative control options, achievements to unlock and native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD,” the Xbox team emphasized today.
Unfortunately, there’s no support for online multiplayer for the Xbox version of Goldeneye 007. However, the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which will be only available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will support online multiplayer.
Goldeneye 007 will also be free for Xbox players who own a copy of the Rare Replay anthology, which also includes Goldeneye 007’s spiritual successor Perfect Dark (also originally a Nintendo 64 game). Microsoft’s new studio The Initiative is currently working on a Perfect Dark reboot with the help of Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics.
The release date for Goldeneye 007 on Xbox and Nintendo Switch comes just a couple of hours ahead of the Xbox & Bethesda Developer_Direct Livestream, which will start airing at 12PM PT. Microsoft is expected to share details on the upcoming Xbox-exclusive games Redfall, Forza Motorsport, and more.
