Xbox October Update Adds Keyboard Mapping for Elite Series 2 and Adaptive Controllers

Xbox October update keyboard mapping

The Xbox October Update is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, and it brings keyboard mapping support for Xbox Elite Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive controllers. This will allow Xbox and PC gamers to map controller buttons to their keyboards using the Xbox Accessories app.

“Keyboard remapping has been a requested feature in the PC gaming and accessibility communities. It helps expand controller input capabilities in games that have many commands, have limited remapping capabilities, or do not support controllers,” the Xbox team explained today.

As part of the Xbox October Update, Microsoft also announced a new integration between Clipcham, the company’s web-based video editing app, and the Xbox network. From Clipchamp, users can import their game captures uploaded on the Xbox network, edit them, and share them with friends and followers. While this is not as good as a native video editing app on Xbox consoles, Clipchamp, which is now installed by default as a PWA on Windows 11, is actually pretty solid.

If you upload your Xbox game clips on the Xbox network, be aware that a recent Xbox update made all screenshots and clips uploaded there disappear after 90 days. As an alternative, you can now automatically back up all your Xbox screenshots and clips on OneDrive.

There are two other notable changes in the Xbox October update: the first one is that sharing optional diagnostic data with the Xbox team is now account-based instead of device-based. This means that once you choose to share diagnostic data on one device, the setting will apply to all your Xbox consoles and PCs, as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming sessions.

Lastly, Microsoft is experimenting with a new way to invite friends to jump into a game or a party right from your Xbox profile. This feature will only roll out to a subset of Xbox gamers who will install the October Xbox Update.
