Grand Theft Auto VI Gets a First Trailer Ahead of its 2025 Release

Grand Theft Auto VI

After the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI leaked yesterday ahead of its official release, Rockstar Games had no choice but to publish it a bit earlier than expected. As it was previously reported, Grand Theft Auto VI will be set in Vice City, Rockstar Games’ fictional version of Miami that we last saw in GTA: Vice City 21 years ago. And for the first time in the history of the series, the game will feature a female protagonist named Lucia.

“Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet,” the company said in a press release. Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, added that GTA VI “continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences.”

As of this writing, the first trailer for GTA VI already crossed 52 million views on YouTube just 10 hours ahead of its publication. The game’s graphics look really impressive, though it’s not clear if we’re watching in-engine footage or a CGI trailer. Anyway, the game will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles in 2025, and there’s no word about a PC release yet.

As you probably know, Rockstar Games is used to let some time go by before releasing PC versions of its blockbuster games. This previously happened with both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption II, and this is a good strategy to push fans to buy the same game twice (or more). This worked very well for GTA V, which has now sold over 190 million units to date.

GTA games are known for delivering a very immersive open-world experience with great storytelling and some funny bits of social commentary. This first trailer seems to be a pretty accurate portrait of the successes and failures of humanity in a giant American metropolis.
