Xbox February Update Adds Touch Controls for Xbox Remote Play and More

Xbox February Update touch controls Xbox Remote play

Microsoft is releasing today the February update for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. The main changes include new touch controls for Xbox Remote Play, a new thumbstick recalibration tool for official Xbox controllers, and new filters and sorts in My games & apps.

With today’s update, Microsoft is bringing the same custom touch controls that are available for some cloud-enabled Xbox Game Pass games to Xbox Remote Play. For those unfamiliar, Xbox Remote Play lets you play the Xbox games you own on your phone when your console is on Standby mode, and you can now do that with touch controls when you don’t have a Bluetooth-enabled Xbox controller with you. Xbox Remote Play still requires a solid Internet connection with a recommended 10Mbps down speed.

If you’re having stick drift issues on an official Xbox controller, Microsoft is adding a new thumbstick recalibration tool in the Xbox Accessories app. The Xbox team pointed out that “not all thumbstick issues can be resolved with this recalibration tool, including drift due to normal wear and tear,” but this is still better than nothing if your controller is out of warranty.

The My Games & apps section is also getting new filter options to find games by accessibility, supported languages, and technical features. Microsoft also changed the tabs for subscription services such as Game Pass and EA Play to sort games by Recently Added, though you can switch back to alphabetical order if you prefer.

Lastly, the Xbox February update adds an automatic profile sign-out option for shared consoles in places like hospitals. After enabling it in System > Access restrictions, Xbox profiles will be automatically deleted on sign-out.

The Xbox February Update should be released later today. While I’m still waiting for the full release notes to confirm it, this update should also restrict the resolution of game screenshots on Xbox Series S to 1080p, a change that Microsoft has been testing with Insiders since December.
