Sony is reportedly planning to launch a new PlayStation 5 Pro console later this fall, and the official announcement could be imminent. Today, an article from the French website Dealabs Magazine posted an image showing what the new console will look like. The image is said to be a mockup of the console as it will appear on the official packaging.
The image, which can you see below, shows a console that looks quite similar to the PlayStation 5 and its Slim revision, which also has 2 USB-C ports on the front. The PlayStation 5 Pro will reportedly still use white side panels, though with the addition of three black stripes in the middle.

Dealabs Magazine believes that the PlayStation 5 Pro could be slightly thicker than the PlayStation 5, even though the console in the image has no disc drive. The publication speculated that Sony may once again make the disc drive optional on the PlayStation 5 Pro, with the disc-less version being slightly more affordable. Sony actually raised the price of its regular PlayStation 5 by 19% in Japan this week, citing cost volatility.
The PlayStation 5 Pro will reportedly come with the same DualSense controller as the PS5 Slim. The report also says that the new console could be announced in the first half of September 2024.
As the launch of this new console generation has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for mid-gen upgrades may not seem as important as it was during the previous generation when 4K TVs started to become mainstream. It appears that Microsoft will be skipping mid-gen upgrades entirely during this console generation as the Xbox team only announced a disc-less Xbox Series X and 2TB model coming in October.
If Microsoft has been playing the power card with the Xbox One X and the Xbox Series X, Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro is set to become the best console to play current-gen games. And that may eventually include Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard games that Microsoft plans to release on PlayStation.
