Death Stranding Director’s Cut, the latest game from Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is no longer a PlayStation console exclusive. The game is now available on Xbox Series X|S consoles with a limited-time 50% discount. It’s also launching on Amazon’s Luna cloud gaming platform.
“Making its original debut on PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019, DEATH STRANDING today celebrates its 5th anniversary, connecting with over 19 million players worldwide. With the addition of DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT now being delivered to Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Luna, we will continue to expand the DEATH STRANDING IP in various forms of entertainment and connect with even more players from around the world,” a press release on the Kojima Productions website reads.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut is currently priced at $19.99 (50% off) on the Microsoft Store, and the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere. This means that you can purchase it once and play it on Xbox Series X|S and PC with cross-saves support.
Death Stranding was released on PC almost a year after its PS4 release in 2019, and it was also on PC Game Pass until August 2023. The game was also released on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS earlier this year, so the absence of an Xbox release didn’t make a lot of sense.
It’s true that Kojima Productions has close ties with PlayStation, with Death Stranding 2 currently being developed exclusively for the PlayStation 5. However, the Japanese studio is also working on OD, an upcoming horror game that will be published by Xbox Game Studios. A mysterious trailer for the game was revealed during The Game Awards 2023 ceremony, and Hideo Kojima previously explained that OD will is being developed using Microsoft’s cloud gaming technology.
