Sony’s PlayStation Portal Can Now Stream Select PS5 Games from the Cloud

PlayStation Portal Cloud Streaming

Sony’s PlayStation Portal remote player can now stream select PlayStation 5 games from the cloud with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Until now, the handheld could only stream games from a local PlayStation 5 console, so it was pretty much useless for people who didn’t already own a PS5.

Cloud streaming on the PlayStation Portal launched in beta back in November 2024, but it was limited to select PS5 games in the PlayStation Plus library. Now, cloud streaming also supports select digital PS5 games purchased from the PlayStation Store, and in-game purchases are supported as well.

“At launch, thousands of PS5 games support Cloud Streaming, including blockbusters such as Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4. In addition, hundreds of compatible games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, including Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea and The Last of Us Part II Remastered are also streamable directly from the cloud,” the PlayStation team said today.

The official launch of cloud streaming on the PlayStation Portal also comes with a redesigned home screen with Remote Play, Cloud Streaming, and Search tabs. The update also adds 3D audio support on supported games, a new network status feature, and a passcode lock to protect the device.

The PlayStation Portal is priced at $199 in the US, and Sony recommends a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps for the best experience. The full list of cloud-enabled PS5 games is available on this page (https://www.playstation.com/fr-fr/ps5-game-cloud-streaming/).
