Microsoft released the April Xbox Update yesterday, which introduces the ability to disable Quick Resume on a per-game basis, new ways to customize the Home dashboard, and more. This is the first wave of new features inspired by user feedback to ship under the new leadership of Asha Sharma, and more will be coming soon.
Here are all the new features included in the April Update for Xbox consoles:
Quick Resume settings: You can now disable Quick Resume for specific games by pressing the Menu button, then going to Manage game and add-ons > Quick Resume settings. This will be especially useful for always online games that may not resume properly.
More Groups on Home: It’s now possible to pin up to 10 groups of apps and games on the Home dashboard. Moreover, up to 10 individual games can be pinned on the Home screen.
Custom colors: Xbox users can now pick up a custom color that will be visible across the Xbox Guide by going to Settings > General > Personalization > Customize the guide.
New Play History tab: In addition to the Play History shortcut on the Home dashboard, there’s now a Play History tab in My Games that shows recently played games across all devices.
Save file indicator in Game Hubs: I’m not seeing this on my console yet, but opening a Game Hub should now display a save file indicator on the Game card indicating whether your saves are syncing to the cloud, fully in sync, out of sync, or stuck on another device or offline.
This isn’t listed in the release notes, but this update also removes user-created Clubs across the Xbox OS, though official Clubs for individual games are still available, where Xbox gamers can still use the Looking for Groups feature to find other players.
Microsoft is currently testing various changes to the Xbox Achievements system with Insiders, which should roll out to all users pretty soon. There’s a new look and feel for achievements notifications, a new gradient effect to highlight 100% completed games, and the ability to hide any game from the Achievement history will come to select Insiders later this month.
