Xbox’s Fable Reboot is Being Delayed to February 2027 to Give it “The Dedicated Moment it Deserves”

Fable delayed February 2027

The much-anticipated Fable reboot is once again being delayed, this time to February 2027. The Xbox team just dropped the news ahead of its annual Xbox Games Showcase next week, where Fable is set to make an appearance.

“This year is packed with incredible games for XBOX players to enjoy, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI. In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7,” the Xbox team posted on X.

The Xbox team didn’t mention the elephant in the room, which is the release of GTA VI on November 19, 2026. Any AAA game developer would want to avoid having its game compete head-on with GTA VI, which is undoubtedly going to break sales records. GTA VI has also been delayed twice, and the hype around the game is only going to increase in the coming months.

Yesterday, Activision announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be released on October 23, which will be a full month before GTA VI. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gears of War: E-Day, which will get its dedicated broadcast on June 7, gets released even earlier than that.

In a new episode of the official Xbox podcast also published today, Matt Booty, who’s recently been promoted to Chief Content Officer at Xbox, also said that there won’t be new Project Helix news during the Xbox Games Showcase. Microsoft previously said that it would have more to share about the next-gen Xbox “later this year,” but in the meantime, the June 7 showcase will be focusing on upcoming first-party and third-party games.
