Rockstar Games Offers Free GTA V Upgrades to Xbox One and PS4 Players

Gta V Enhanced edition

Rockstar Games is offering free upgrades to the current-gen version of GTA V to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players. Starting tomorrow, players on last-gen consoles will be able to claim the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA V for free and enjoy graphical and performance improvements, plus new content for GTA Online.

“GTAV and GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S feature vast technical improvements, easy migration of your Story Mode and Online progress, and new features including Hao’s Special Works high-performance vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and much more,” Rockstar Games explained today. “PC players can also experience all these updates along with PC-only features such as ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, by upgrading from Legacy to Enhanced for free.”

GTA V was originally released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2013, and Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions followed a year later. Enhanced versions for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S were released in 2022 with support for up to 4K graphics, 60 FPS, and ray tracing, but they were priced at $19.99. Unfortunately, there’s also no support for cross-play multiplayer with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

An enhanced version of GTA V was also released on PC as a free update last year. This new “GTA V Enhanced” version added support for higher resolutions and frame rates, ambient occlusion and global illumination, ray-traced shadows and reflections, and more.

These free upgrades for console and PC players come just a couple of months ahead of the much-anticipated release of GTA VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Following two delays, the game will now ship on current-gen consoles on November 19, 2026. Rockstar Games will likely kick off the global marketing campaign for the game over the summer.
