As part of its quarterly earnings report, Nintendo said that it sold 6.49 million Switch 2 consoles, down 37 percent year-over-year (YOY). The company had now sold 26.35 million Switch 2s overall and says it’s still on track to hit 16.5 million units sold by the end of its fiscal year in March.
Nintendo reported that it earned an operating profit of ¥301 billion on revenues of ¥966 billion in the quarter ending September 30, 2026. Those figures represent a decline of 12.1 percent and a gain of 49.1 percent, respectively, YOY.
“Although sales declined year-on-year due to lower hardware unit sales, operating profit rose 49.1 percent to 216.5 billion yen,” the Nintendo earnings report explains. “This increase was driven by steady software sales, which accounted for a larger share of total sales, and a first-quarter refund of U.S. tariffs previously recorded as cost of sales.”
Nintendo also sold another 1.27 million OG Switch units, a decline of 32.7 percent YOY, bringing the lifetime sales of that console to 157.2 million units. But the company’s finances were bolstered by intellectual property, with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie generating another ¥62.7 billion, and by software sales.
On that note, Switch 2 software units rose 18.8 percent YOY in the quarter to 25 million units, with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream selling 8.81 million units, Rhythm Heaven Groove selling 2.89 million units, and Splatoon Raiders selling 2.42 million units in the quarter. 61 percent of Nintendo’s software sales are now digital, up from 54.5 percent a year ago. Its best-selling Switch 2 title, Super Mario Kart World, has now sold a cumulative 16.48 million units.
Nintendo raised Switch 2 prices this year because of higher costs associated with the ongoing component prices, but it says it has no plans to raise them again this fiscal year because it has acquired enough RAM and other components to meet its sales estimates.
