Xbox Series X Gets Unboxed A Little Early

We are a little less than a month away from the release of the next-generation Xbox. While warehouses are starting to fill up with consoles, one individual took it upon themselves to unbox the unreleased hardware.

Posted on YouTube, a video by Willy Crow, unboxes the new console and shows how Microsoft has packaged the hardware for retail release; you can watch the video below.

The video does not go into significant detail about the unboxing process but you can see that Microsoft has put some effort into how the box opens. With the current generation Xbox One X/S, the console slides out of the top of the box and is covered in foam whereas, with Series X, the box opens up more like a high-end watch container.

The above video only shows the Series X but I would imagine that the Series S will unbox in a similar way. With only about a month to go until release, you will not have to wait too much longer to get your hangs on a console as long as you got your pre-order in, early.

I still remember a talk at GDC just after the Xbox360 came out about the design of the hardware, software, and even the packaging. They talked about how the first thing you would always see when opening most consumer electronics items was a sheet explaining what to do should it break (the warranty card) and how they put a lot of effort into making the opening of the box (this was before "unboxing" was a term) was a pleasurable experience.

In reply to Dashrender:

Really? It's a rectangle. Quite inoffensive to me frankly. I'm really not going to be looking at it anyway, but it's not going to upset anyone's decor either.

Hopefully your pre-order isn't going to be the one this guy already opened before it gets shipped to you.

It looks a bit like a subwoofer, which would help it blend in in a typical media/home theater/gaming setting.
