Crackdown 2 is Now Free on Xbox One

Microsoft announced that it has made Crackdown 2 available for free on Xbox One via Xbox Backward Compatibility.

“Crackdown 2 is coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility today and will be available for free,” Microsoft’s Larry Hryb tweeted last night, linking to his own list of older Xbox and Xbox 360 titles that are now available to Xbox One gamers via Backward Compatibility.

Crackdown 2 is an Xbox 360 title that was originally released in 2010 as a sequel to the original Crackdown. I was a huge fan of the original game, but I don’t believe I ever played Crackdown 2, which was admittedly less well-received than the first one. Which is also available for free via Xbox Backward Compatibility and has been since November.

Crackdown 3, of course, launched in early February and is available to gamers who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass.

You can find Crackdown 2 on the Xbox Store.

Thanks! It also works for laggards/cheapskates like me who are still on 360. I grabbed Crackdown when you posted about it (I'd never heard of it) and #2 was loosely on my list of games to get when I next run out of things to play - so that worked out well.

Crackdown never needed any sequels, the first game worked in a window of opportunity that closed after a few years when it came out as other games copied open world with powers theme (doing it better than Crackdown did too).

The second is a reskin of the first with a few more enemies and missions made on shoe string budget.

Crackdown was a fun game but a product of it's era, MS should have never have tried to bring it back to life at least not without radically revamping it which it failed on with Crackdown 3.

I really liked Crackdown and Crackdown 2. There were a few extras in Crackdown 2 that I really liked, like having vehicles dropped in on demand and the parasuit for gliding off tall buildings.
