The Hit Game Firewatch is Coming to Xbox One This Month

The hit game Firewatch, previously available only on the Sony PlayStation 4 and Windows PC (Steam), is coming to the Xbox One on September 21. And here’s even better news: We’re getting a unique Firewatch audio tour as well.

As you must know, I don’t usually highlight individual Xbox One games like this—unless they’re blockbuster titles, I guess—but Firewatch is special. I played a big chunk of this game while visiting Rafael back in March, and I made it a software pick of the week on that week’s episode of Windows Weekly. And it’s pretty great.

“Firewatch is a first person mystery set in the woods of Wyoming,” writes Sean Vanaman, who works at Campo Santo, the small game maker behind Firewatch. “You play as a man named Henry and you’ve escaped your messy life for some peaceful time alone in the woods. Except you’re not alone: you’re in constant contact with a woman named Delilah who works in a nearby tower and your time quickly stops being peaceful.”

Looking at the Campo Santo web site, you’ll see that Firewatch is in fact the only game they’ve published so far. And given it’s previous release on the PS4, I didn’t believe we’d ever see it on Xbox One. And yet, here it comes.

And as noted above, we’re getting a reward for the wait as well: Firewatch for Xbox One comes with a special audio tour that Vanaman describes as “a making-of that takes the normal game mode and turns it into one part Director’s Commentary, one part Game Dev Workshop and wraps that all around a scavenger hunt.” Plus, the Xbox One version also features a unique free-roam mode so you can explore the Shoshone Wilderness with dynamic time of day and some hidden secrets.

I’ll be grabbing this one as soon as it comes out. I can’t wait.
