Google’s 2019 Hardware Includes a New Home, Watch, Security Camera

Google is reportedly planning to expand its Made by Google line of products with a couple of new devices later this year. The company is expected to launch a wide range of new devices, including new smartphones, smart speakers, and security cameras later this year, according to Japanese publication Nikkei.

Most of what Google is planning to launch this year is already known, like the new Pixel 3 Lite line. The company is expected to launch the new Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite sometime this Spring to compete with Apple’s iPhone Xr device. The new Pixel 3 Lite line will reportedly undercut the iPhone Xr in terms of pricing. The company is also expected to launch the new Pixel 4 line later this year.

Along with the new Pixel phones, Google is apparently working on a new Google Home speaker. Although Google has been introducing new Home-branded products over the years, the company is going to be updating the regular Google Home speaker later this year after a long time. It’s not clear what’s expected to change on the new Home speaker, however.

The company is also apparently planning to launch the new Pixel Watch later this year, which would make sense considering Google just recently spent $40 million on Fossil’s smartwatch tech.

And lastly, the company is reportedly working on a new security camera. The company was previously rumored to be rebranding its Nest-branded products after the Nest team got integrated into Google, meaning the new security camera could be part of the Google Home brand or possibly continue featuring the Nest brand.

Most of these new products aren’t expected to make an appearance till later this year, considering the company usually launches new products around October. Still, if last year is anything to go by, we will probably get a solid idea of what Google has in stores weeks, or maybe even months before their official launch.

I still can't imagine they'd change the Nest brand. It's still has a lot of cachet.

That's it? Not even a mention of how smartwatch sales went up 61% and thus (perhaps) the reason for Google's acquistion of Fossil's smartwatch tech?

As for Google's Home speaker update, I hope that it will primarily focus on the Home Hub. I have the Home Hub and it is fantastic! Prior to purchasing the Home Hub, I would ask Google for the weather. It would then tell me what the current weather is along with the highs and lows. Now, when I ask Google for the weather it says the same thing, but it also shows me a visual of what the weather will be like during the times of the day/night. This is cool. It's helps me decide whether to bring an umbrella to work or not. Why bring the umbrella to the office, if it's only going to rain during the times i am inside the building. I know I could get that information from my phone, but it's so much easier to just do "ambient computing" on the fly.

I apologies for what I'm about to say, everybody has their own writing style, but I pretty much prefer Paul's articles, they have a lot more research and data. Actual material I can learn from, not just headlights expanded.
