Google Brings Generative AI in Search to More Than 120 Countries

Google Search Generative experience

Google’s new Search Generative Experience (SGE), which puts ChatGPT-like answers at the top of the search results page is now available in more than 120 new countries and four new languages. Until now, generative AI results in Google Search were only available in English in the US, India, and Japan.

“Starting today, we’re bringing Search Labs and SGE in English to more than 120 new countries and territories around the world, including Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa,” Google announced yesterday. “As part of this expansion, we’re also enabling four new languages for everyone using SGE: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Indonesian.”

While this is the biggest expansion of generative AI in Google Search to date, Google also detailed three improvements that will launch first in the US. The first one will make it easier to ask follow-up questions directly from the search results page.

AI-powered translation help is also coming soon to the US for English-to-Spanish translations. When you try to translate words that can have multiple meanings, Google will underline them and allow you to choose the specific meaning of the word you want to translate.

Lastly, the Google Search Generative Experience will add more definitions for topics like coding and health over the next month. “On relevant searches, you’ll see certain words highlighted, so you can hover over them to preview their definition or view related images,” Google explained.

To try the new Search Generative Experience, you’ll have to open the Search Labs page on Google Chrome on the desktop, and this page is also available on the Google app for iOS and Android. Google said that desktop access is available in all new countries today, but that access through the Google mobile app will be available over the coming week.
