HP unveiled today the Spectre Foldable PC, a 3-in-1 device that comes with a 17-inch foldable screen, a built-in kickstand, and a detachable keyboard. HP promises ultimate versatility with a device that can be used as a tablet, a laptop, and a desktop PC.

“Consumers are demanding greater flexibility to connect, work, and play for their hybrid lives beyond what the traditional laptop can provide,” said Jo Tan, SVP & Division President of Personal Systems Consumer Solutions at HP.

While other PC manufacturers such as Asus and Lenovo have already launched laptops with a foldable screen, HP’s Spectre Foldable PC has some unique features including a display that’s IMAX Enhanced certified. The device also includes an AI chip providing support for gesture controls, walk away lock, and other security features.

In laptop mode, the foldable OLED screen provides a 12.3-inch screen on the top if you let the detachable keyboard sit on the other half of the screen. However, you can also get a one-and-half-screen experience or a dual-screen experience depending on how you position the detachable keyboard.

HP explained that the expanded mode leverages Windows Snap along with an HP-designed enhanced mode “to quickly adapt and reconfigure the Windows layout.” The company said that the integrated hinge on the Spectre Foldable PC is “designed for durability and tested with the same requirements as traditional HP laptops.” integrated hinge.

The HP Spectre Foldable PC will come with an Intel Core i7 CPU with integrated Iris Xe Graphics, 16GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports. The 94.3 Wh battery should deliver up to 12:30 hours of battery life, and the detachable Bluetooth keyboard can be recharged wirelessly.

The HP Spectre foldable is available for pre-order in the US today with a hefty $4.999.99 starting price. The device will start shipping in limited quantities in October, and availability will expand to other countries later this fall.
