Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon X Series for the PC

Coming Soon: Snapdragon Series X

Well, it’s finally happening: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series chipsets will deliver next-level performance, AI, connectivity, and battery life, plus hardware-accelerated AI for Windows on Arm PCs.

“Snapdragon X series platforms build on our years of experience engineering heterogeneous compute architectures across the central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU), and neural processing unit (NPU),” Qualcomm senior vice president Don McGuire writes in the announcement post. “Now, harnessing our next-generation custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU, a quantum leap forward in performance and power efficiency will anchor Snapdragon X and — when combined with our NPU — will deliver accelerated on-device user experiences for the new era of generative AI.”

Qualcomm felt that this chipset was such an advance over its previous PC-based chipsets that it needed a new naming convention and visual design. The “X” distinguishes these PC-based chips from its other chipsets, it says, while the premium nature of its design represents “the monumental leap forward in computing, and the user experiences it will enable.” And as with other Snapdragon chipsets, there will be tiers of Snapdragon X chipsets.

Qualcomm will provide more information about Snapdragon X chipsets at its Snapdragon Summit, which starts in two weeks. Stay tuned!
