Intel Reveals Full 14th Gen Core Mobile and Desktop CPU Lineup

Intel 14th Gen Core CPU

After AMD unveiled its new Ryzen 8000G Series Desktop CPUs earlier today, it’s now Intel’s turn to announce new CPUs. Today, the company detailed its full lineup of 14th gen Core CPUs, including new desktop chips and HX-series and U-series mobile chips.

These new 14th gen Core CPUs follow the launch of Intel’s first “Meteor Lake” Core Ultra mobile CPUs in December. As a reminder, Intel announced last year a new branding structure for its CPUs with a simplified 3/5/7/9 processor tiering. The “Core Ultra” brand now represents the company’s most advanced client CPUs with integrated neural processing units (NPUs). However, the “Intel Core” lineup now designates the company’s mainstream client offerings, and this is what we’ll be talking about below.

New 14th gen Core desktop CPUs

Intel’s new 14th gen Core desktop CPU lineup includes a total of 18 new processors. The top-of-the-line Core i9-14900 chip includes 24 cores (8 Performance-cores and 16 Efficient-cores) and 32 threads, with a maximum 6.0 GHz frequency. The Core i7 CPUs, however, now come with four additional Efficient-cores, for a total of 20 cores (8 P-cores and 12 E-cores) and 28 threads to better handle multitasking workloads.

The latest Intel desktop CPUs also support up to 192GB of memory, Wi-Fi 7 for multi-gigabit speeds, and Bluetooth LE Audio for true wireless stereo. They’re also compatible with existing Intel 600- and 700-series-based motherboards. Intel’s 14th gen Core desktop CPUs are now available for purchase starting today.

New 14th gen HX-series mobile CPUs

The new HX-series mobile CPUs that Intel is announcing today include up to 24 cores (8 P-cores + 16 E-cores) and up to 32 threads on the top-of-the-line Core i9 14900HX, with a 5.8 Ghz turbo frequency. Compared to AMD’s last-gen 7945X3D CPU, Intel promises up to 17% better gaming performance and up to 51% faster multitasking performance.

The Core i7 family is also getting better with 50% more E-cores on the i7-14700HX, for a total of 20 cores (eight P-cores, 12 E-cores) and 28 threads. These HX-series mobile CPUs also support up to 192GB of DDR5 memory, as well as the new Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and Thunderbolt 5 standards. Intel says that it expects over 60 devices powered by its Core 14th Gen HX-series chips will be released in 2024.

New Core U-Series chips

Compared to Intel’s H-series chips designed for high-performance devices, Intel’s U-series chips target thin and light laptops. And this time, Intel has also named its new U-series lineup the “Series 1 family.”

The new Core 3/5/7 chips feature up to 10 cores (2 P-cores and 2 E-cores), up to 12 threads, with a 5.4 Ghz max turbo frequency. Support for the brand new Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 standards are also included, but there’s no Thunderbolt 5.

Intel says that the first laptops with its new 14th Gen Core U-Series chips will be released in the first quarter of 2024.
