As part of a major push at MWC this week, Lenovo announced new hardware and software and teased the transparent displays of the future.

“Lenovo’s suite of AI-enabled, AI-ready, and AI-optimized devices, infrastructure, solutions, and services at MWC provides a wider look at our vision for ‘AI for All’,” Lenovo chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang said. “Lenovo’s AI technology benefits organizations of all sizes, driving intelligent transformation across all industries while reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.”

Getting the most attention, naturally, is the firm’s ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept, a demo that shows off how the displays of the future may be transparent. This proof-of-concept PC features a 17.3-inch micro-LED transparent display with a borderless screen, a transparent keyboard deck, and a footpad that makes the device appear to be floating above the table. According to Lenovo, the transparency allows the display to blend in with the background and could “open up new ways of engaging with data and applications.”

Back in the real world, Lenovo also announced generational updates to its ThinkPad T14, ThinkPad T14s, ThinkPad T16, ThinkPad X12 Detachable, and ThinkBook 14. Each is powered by AI-accelerated Intel Core Ultra chipsets, and select models offer Intel vPro management capabilities as well.

“The AI PC revolution is here, and Lenovo is dedicated to transforming its PCs and smart devices to deliver personalized AI solutions,” the firm notes. “These new Lenovo laptops offer users the most comprehensive personalized PC experiences yet, helping to streamline workstreams and boost productivity. Whether it’s collaborating with colleagues, meeting with customers, or analyzing data and creating content, these new ThinkPad and ThinkBook laptops can accelerate workflows with supported AI-enabled software tools users need to encourage maximum creativity and efficiency.”

Lenovo also announced Smart Connect with its Motorola Mobility subsidiary. This new software is the latest attempt to unify the PC and mobile phone ecosystems, and it offers interesting multi-device and cross-device experiences that include file sharing, accessing mobile apps on a PC, phone notification management, resuming media playback or documenting editing on the other device, and the like. It’s not clear whether this software will be limited to Lenovo PCs and devices.
